The decision to pursue addiction treatment rarely happens in a single moment. It builds. Questions accumulate. Fears and misconceptions pile up alongside real and valid concerns. The resources in this section exist to help you work through that process with accurate information, honest perspective, and the kind of clarity that makes the first phone call easier to make.
St. Christopher's blog covers the clinical, personal, and practical dimensions of addiction and recovery with the same directness and depth that defines everything we do. Articles are written for real people covering real topics including the neuroscience of addiction, what to expect from treatment, how to support a loved one without enabling, relapse prevention, mental health and substance use, and more.
If you have a question about addiction or recovery that you have not been able to get a straight answer to, there is a good chance our blog has addressed it.
Our FAQ section addresses the questions that come up most often from men considering treatment, families in crisis, and professionals evaluating referral options. Questions about what treatment looks like day to day, how insurance works, what the difference is between residential treatment and extended care, what happens if someone relapses, and dozens more.
The most credible evidence that St. Christopher's programs work is the men who came through before and built lives they are proud of. Our alumni testimonials section features stories from men who have completed treatment at STC, written and shared in their own words, about what brought them here, what the experience was like, and what their lives look like now.
For men who are skeptical that recovery is possible for someone like them, reading one of these stories is often more persuasive than anything our clinical team could say.
Loving someone who is struggling with addiction is one of the most disorienting and exhausting experiences a family can go through. The For Families resource section is built specifically for parents, spouses, siblings, and children of men with addiction, providing guidance on how to approach a loved one about treatment, how to set healthy boundaries, what to expect during the treatment process, and how to take care of yourself while supporting someone in recovery.
You cannot help someone else get better by running yourself into the ground. This section helps you find the balance.
The For Clients section is built for men who are in treatment at St. Christopher's or preparing to enter it. It covers practical information about what to expect, how to make the most of the treatment experience, what the continuum of care looks like from the inside, and how to stay engaged with recovery after formal treatment ends. It is also a resource for men who are earlier in the process and want to understand what treatment at STC actually involves before they commit.
St. Christopher's has been a trusted referral partner for treatment professionals across Louisiana and the Gulf South for more than 25 years. We work with employee assistance professionals, case managers, licensed clinicians, hospital social workers, interventionists, and other behavioral health providers who need a long-term, CARF-accredited men's program they can refer to with confidence.
What we offer referring professionals is transparency. We will tell you exactly what our programs include, what our outcomes look like, and which clients are and are not appropriate for our level of care. We do not take referrals that are not a good clinical fit, because a failed placement does not serve anyone.
If you are a professional looking to establish a referral relationship with St. Christopher's or to discuss a specific client, our clinical and admissions team is available to speak with you directly.
If you or someone you love is experiencing a medical emergency related to substance use, including overdose, seizure, or severe withdrawal, call 911 immediately. Do not wait.
