Addiction Treatment for Men in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Addiction takes different forms for different people. The substance changes. The history changes. The circumstances that led someone to our door are never exactly the same twice. What does not change is our approach: thorough clinical assessment, evidence-based treatment, a structured community of men in recovery, and a long-term commitment to outcomes that last well beyond discharge.

St. Christopher's Addiction Wellness Center has been treating drug and alcohol addiction in Baton Rouge for more than 25 years. In that time, we have learned that real recovery requires.

Who We Treat

St. Christopher's residential and long-term addiction treatment programs primarily serve men age 18 and older. Our Intensive Outpatient Program is open to both men and women.

We treat patients at all stages of addiction, from those in the early stages of recognizing a problem to those who have been through multiple treatment attempts and are looking for a program with the depth and pedigree to support lasting change. We also treat men who are navigating addiction alongside co-occurring mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma.

Drug & Alcohol Addictions We Treat

Our clinical team is trained and experienced in treating substance use disorders across a wide spectrum.

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol use disorder is one of the most common and most misunderstood addictions we treat. Alcohol withdrawal can be medically serious, making supervised detox an important first step for many patients. Our on-site medical detox program provides 24-hour nursing care and medical oversight to manage withdrawal safely before the deeper work of residential treatment begins.

Opioid, Heroin, and Fentanyl Addiction

Opioid addiction, whether driven by prescription painkillers, heroin, or fentanyl is one of the most physically and psychologically demanding substance use disorders to treat.

Our approach to opioid, heroin, and fentanyl addiction treatment combines medically supervised detox to manage acute withdrawal, residential treatment to address the psychological and behavioral dimensions of opioid dependence, and an extended long-term care structure designed to support patients through the critical period when relapse risk is highest.

Prescription Drug Addiction

Prescription drug addiction often develops gradually and without clear warning signs. Many men who struggle with prescription drug misuse started with a legitimate prescription and did not recognize the line they crossed until the consequences were already serious.

We treat prescription drug addiction with the same clinical rigor and respect as any other substance use disorder.

Cocaine & Stimulant Addiction

Stimulant addiction, including cocaine and methamphetamine, affects the brain's reward system in ways that make sustained sobriety particularly challenging without structured support.

Our residential program provides the daily structure, clinical oversight, and peer community that men recovering from stimulant addiction need to get through those early weeks and begin building a foundation for long-term sobriety.

Benzodiazepine Addiction

Benzodiazepine dependence is often underrecognized because these medications are prescribed by doctors and carry a perception of safety that other substances do not. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines can be medically dangerous and should never be attempted without clinical supervision.

Our medical detox program is equipped to manage benzo withdrawal safely, and our clinical team has the experience to treat the anxiety, sleep disturbance, and psychological symptoms that often accompany benzodiazepine dependence throughout the treatment process.

Kratom & 7-OH Addiction

Kratom and its more potent derivative 7-hydroxymitragynine, commonly known as 7-OH, have become increasingly prevalent substances of misuse in Louisiana and across the Gulf South. Both interact with opioid receptors in the brain and can produce physical dependence, tolerance, and a withdrawal syndrome that closely resembles opioid withdrawal.

Polysubstance Use and Addiction

Many of the men who come to St. Christopher's are not struggling with a single substance.

Our comprehensive assessment process is designed to identify the full picture of a patient's substance use history and develop a treatment plan that accounts for all of it.

Our Clinical Approach to Treating Addiction

Every patient who enters St. Christopher's goes through a comprehensive clinical assessment process. Understanding the full scope of a person's addiction history, their mental and physical health, their family situation, and their previous treatment experiences allows our team to build a tailored treatment plan specific to the individual.

Our treatment is grounded in the 12-Step model and enhanced by evidence-based clinical practices including cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and group psychotherapy. These approaches work together to address addiction at every level: behavioral, psychological, relational, and spiritual.

Our multidisciplinary team, which includes a board-certified addictionologist, licensed clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, psychiatric nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and certified addiction counselors, collaborates on every patient's care. No one person carries the full clinical picture alone.

A Full Continuum of Addiction Treatment Programs

Addiction treatment is a process that unfolds over time, and the structure that supports it needs to evolve as the patient does. St. Christopher's offers a complete continuum of care that moves patients from detox through residential treatment, and into long-term aftercare, all within a single organization and a single community.

Continuity of care improves outcomes. When a patient does not have to start over at a new facility with a new team every time they advance to the next phase of treatment, the therapeutic work builds on itself rather than being interrupted.

Our Program:

Medical Detox

Medically supervised withdrawal with 24-hour nursing and physician oversight.

Medical Detox

Residential Treatment

Structured inpatient care addressing the full scope of addiction and co-occurring conditions.

Residential Treatment

Intensive Outpatient Program

Evening treatment for men and women maintaining daily responsibilities.

IOP

Long-Term Recovery

A transitional phase building real-world stability between residential treatment and independent living alongside accountability and community connection to sustain sobriety after formal treatment ends.

Long-Term Recovery

Long-Term Addiction Treatment Produces Better Recovery Outcomes

Short-term treatment can stabilize a crisis. Long-term treatment builds a life. The research on this is consistent: patients who engage in longer periods of structured treatment, particularly those that include sober living, and ongoing aftercare, have significantly better long-term sobriety outcomes than those who complete a brief residential stay and return directly to their previous environment.

St. Christopher's has been committed to the long-term model since we opened over 25 years ago because the men who came back to us year after year as alumni, as sponsors, and in some cases as staff, were the ones who stayed long enough to do the real work.

Our goal is lasting recovery.

Insurance Coverage for Addiction Treatment

St. Christopher's accepts most major insurance plans for addiction treatment. Our admissions team can verify your coverage before you commit to anything, and they are available around the clock to walk you through your options.

Cost should never be the reason someone does not get help.
