Recovery Advocates assist in providing a safe environment for individuals while they are in the treatment process by acting as a guide/mentor in recovery.
The Recovery Advocate fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with long-term plan, mission, vision, and values of St Christopher’s Addiction Wellness Center.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in the admissions process, utilization review, orientation, answers patient questions, and assists patient in adjusting to the recovery program routine
- Works as a liaison between the patient and clinical staff to report any changes in the patient’s physical, behavioral, and/or mental condition.
- Assists the professional staff by helping to supervise patients during the recovery program with emphasis on patient safety, well-being, respect and dignity.
- Functions as a member of the treatment team and accepts responsibilities for duties, such as but not limited to patient observations (and rounds), risk observations, and assisting with behavior modification programs such as during patient crisis
- Accompanies and transports patients to medical clinics, recreational activities, field trips, and other outings, AA meetings in the community, to ensure safety, provide therapeutic assistance, and help prevent elopement. Institutes appropriate security measures escorting patients inside and outside the facility.
- Participates and assists clinical treatment team members with groups in therapeutic activities.
- Maintains awareness of and documents whereabouts of patients at all times, reporting problems appropriately.
- Recognizes and intervenes in disturbed/aggressive behavior as soon as sign of disruptive behaviors are recognized per company policies and procedures. Participates as an active member in the treatment team meetings, advising others of observations and recommendations.
- Possesses the ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and other programs, displaying intermediate PC skills
- Manages with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of STC
Qualifications
- General Knowledge of 12-Step Recovery Program
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes due to business and staffing needs including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended times if necessary
- Ability to pass acceptable drug screen and background check
- General knowledge of addictions and mental health complications
- General knowledge of alcohol and addictive drugs and; their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual and the family
- Completion of STC Recovery Advocate Training
- CPR and First Aid Certification or Maintained within 30 days of employment
- Class “D” (Chauffeur’s) License accompanied with acceptable driving record
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Municipal Laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction including Confidentiality (HIPAA), Patient Rights, Company Code of Ethics, and Discrimination
